What is Hypnosis ?
Throughout the day your subconscious mind diligently takes care of all those automatic functions you don't need to think about, its your own super computer. The subconscious mind also controls patterns of behaviour and likes repetition so will repeat patterns even if they are negative.
During hypnosis the subconscious mind takes on positive suggestions which replace the negative ones.
Hypnosis is very ordinary in many ways... in fact we go in to trance several times a day, when you are driving (that feeling you get when you get somewhere but can't remember how you got there), reading, watching TV and out for a run.
It is a very natural process.
What Hypnosis isn’t:
Contrary to the image portrayed in films, books and the media, Hypnosis does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind – no one can Hypnotise you against your will.
Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to – your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you.
What is Hypnosis like?
Actually, we all experience the Hypnotic state in our everyday lives.
Have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, or been engrossed in a book and not been conscious of time passing? If so, you’ve been in a state of focused attention, not unlike the feeling of being Hypnotised.
During Hypnosis, you will be guided into a similar state so that beneficial suggestions can be directed towards your subconscious mind.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, modern strategies combining the best of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy concentrates on the solution rather than the problem. After the initial consultation, where we speak briefly about your issue, we will not speak about anything negative; the therapy room is a positive space.
We will work together, usually on a weekly basis to begin with, and develop a picture of where you would like to be. Each week we will take small steps towards achieving your goals.
The Solution Focused therapy works quickly but is dependent on your full commitment.
What is Neuro-linguistic Programming?
Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) works on the principle that everyone has all the resources they need to make positive changes in their own life, they just need to understand how to use the resources to bring about change.
What is Cognitive behavioural therapy ?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of talking treatment which focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviour, and teaches you coping strategies for dealing with different problems.
What is Psychotherapy?
There are many different kinds of Psychotherapy, all of which aim to help people overcome stress or emotional problems. Psychotherapy involves talking together to help clients overcome their difficulties. Psychotherapy is often referred to as a ‘talking treatment’.
